On Saturday, November 23, 2013, the Car of the Year Japan Organizing Committee held the ballot counting and the awarding ceremony of the 2013-2014 Car of the Year Japan at the site of the 43rd Tokyo Motor Show 2013, which opened to the public on the same day. As a result, The Car of the Year Japan was granted to Volkswagen Golf, imported and marketed by Volkswagen Group Japan (VGJ), a member company of the Japan Automobile Importers Association (JAIA).
The Car of the Year Japan award, which started in 1980, went to an imported for the first time in 34 years of its history, which is truly a remarkable accomplishment.
The award is considered an indication that the advanced safety and environmental performances of non-Japanese brand imports are highly appreciated and well accepted by the customers in Japan.
The Volkswagen Golf has been the best-selling import model 25 years in a row, listed at the top in sales by model since the start of our statistics service (new vehicle registrations by model) in 1988. On June 25, 2013, a new generation of Golf (seventh generation) went on sale and further leap forward is expected.
