2011 New Year’s Greeting

Mr. Roland Krüger

Happy New Year!

I am pleased to extend my greetings in the beginning of the year 2011.

To start with, let me celebrate the New Year together with you. For myself, this is the very first New Year since I became the chairman of this association last March.

For Japan’s domestic economy, the stimulus packages of the government have brought about noticeable recoveries in private consumption temporarily, but difficult situations facing auto sales are still continuing, given the sharp drop after the end of the so-called eco-car subsidies.

Thanks to the forward-looking plans and efforts of the car importers, actively
launching new models with excellent environmental performances and introducing such next-generation automotive technologies as electric vehicles, the imported car market is certainly on the road to recovery now.

In order to ensure sound recovery and further growth of the market, we, Japan Automobile Importers Association, are determined to facilitate the global harmonization of standards, while continuing to approach the government and other bodies concerned for various measures in the areas of taxation, safety and environment, as well as regulatory issues, toward the globalization of Japan’s car market.

Further, in last July, we welcomed motorcycle importers as new JAIA members, commencing services in addition to the ongoing four-wheeler activities under a broader operating structure.

By offering extensive line of the world’s renowned imported brands that have grown in different background and culture of different countries of origin, equipped with highly-reliable safety features and innovative environmental performances, we hope to let the people of Japan sense the attractiveness of imported models, while contributing to the growth of Japan’s vehicle market, as well as the overall economy.

Thank you very much for your further understanding and continued support, and let me close my greetings by wishing you the best for the new year.
